Corner stores advanced their sales digitalization processes during 2020 in both Costa Rica and other Latin American countries.
Results from a Fundes study show that store owners claim there is an increased correlation between their monthly sales and the use of digital payments, starting with the greater use and dependence on card readers to maintain or improve their sales.
Social networks and messaging apps, used to promote and sell products, have become allies for store owners during the pandemic. WhatsApp turned out to be the most used channel (53%).
Fundes warns, however, that in the region only 15% have started a digitalization process. Another 35% are interested but have not yet begun. The survey was also conducted in other countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Honduras, Panama, and El Salvador.
